Stork Press acquires the rights to the Nobel-nominated Polish author Tadeusz Różewicz’s Mother Departs
For immediate release
Stork Press is delighted to announce the acquisition of global English rights to the memoir of Polish Nobel-nominated author Tadeusz Różewicz, entitled Mother Departs.
Różewicz is widely recognized as the greatest living Polish writer. A contemporary of Nobel-prize winners Czesław Miłosz and Wisława Szymborska, Mr Różewicz is the winner of the 2007 European Prize for Literature (Prix Européen de Littérature). His New Poems (2007) was a finalist for the 2008 National Book Critics Circle Award.
When Różewicz’s approved translators, Barbara Bogoczek and Tony Howard, approached Stork Press with a proposal to publish Mother Departs, winner of the 2000 Nike Award, the most eminent literary award in Poland, we were deeply honoured. No collection of Różewicz’s prose has ever been published in English and Mother Departs is one of his masterpieces.
Mother Departs is a passionate memoir of a son’s love for his mother and his grief at her death. Through prose and verse, Różewicz contemplates the complexity of human life and the meaning of love. Mother Departs will be released in 2013 in print and ebook editions.
